Malaysia pricing · 2026

How much does a website design cost in Malaysia?

Short answer: most small business websites in Malaysia cost RM 2,000 to RM 15,000 to build, plus RM 300 to RM 1,000 a year to keep online.

The range is wide because “a website” can mean a RM 800 template or a RM 30,000 online store. Below: what each price level actually buys, the costs that arrive after launch, and how to tell a fair quote from one that’s too cheap.

What most owners expect a website to cost: a few thousand ringgit, split into tidy parts. The real figures depend on the type of site you need. See the table below.

Website design cost in Malaysia by type

Typical 2026 ranges for a one-off build, before yearly costs. Your quote depends on scope; these are the shapes projects usually take.

Six types of small business website in Malaysia with their 2026 prices: DIY builder RM 500 to 1,500 a year, freelancer template RM 800 to 3,000, one-page site RM 2,000 to 4,000, 5 to 10 page small business site RM 6,000 to 15,000, e-commerce RM 8,000 to 30,000, and custom builds from RM 30,000
What each type of site actually costs. A 5–10 page site built to bring enquiries usually costs RM 6,000–15,000, not the RM 2,000–5,000 many owners expect.

What you pay every year after launch

The build is a one-off. These come back every year, and cheap quotes often leave them out.

Yearly website running costs in Malaysia: domain name RM 50 to 150, hosting RM 200 to 800, SSL certificate free, business email RM 0 to 600, and optional maintenance RM 1,200 to 6,000 a year
The five costs that come back every year. Domain and hosting alone come to roughly RM 300–1,000 a year; email and maintenance are on top.
ItemYearly costNotes
Domain name (.com or .com.my)RM 50 – 150.com.my usually costs more than .com. Register it in your own name, not the designer’s
HostingRM 200 – 800Shared hosting is enough for most small business sites. Check that backups are included
SSL certificateRM 0Free on most hosts. Paying extra for a basic SSL is rarely necessary
Business emailRM 0 – 600Free with some hosting; paid per user on Google Workspace or Microsoft 365
Maintenance (optional)RM 1,200 – 6,000Updates, backups, security and small edits. Worth it if the site runs on WordPress

For what maintenance should cover, see the website maintenance guide.

What pushes a Malaysian quote up or down

Not the visual design. These six things decide almost the whole number.

Page countEvery page needs structure, copy, images and testing. Ten pages is closer to three times the work of five once navigation and internal links are involved.
Who writes the wordsThe biggest variable. If you supply final copy, the project is faster and cheaper. If it has to be drawn out of you and written properly, budget for it. It is also the part that makes people enquire.
LanguagesEnglish only is the baseline. Adding Bahasa Malaysia or Chinese versions means translating, laying out and testing every page again, often adding 30–60%.
Payments and bookingsA contact form is simple. FPX or card payments, online bookings, delivery zones and stock sync each add build and testing time.
WhatsApp and Google linksCheap to set up and worth insisting on. Most Malaysian customers would rather message than fill in a form. See WhatsApp for small business.
PhotosReal photos of you, your shop and your work beat stock images. If you don’t have them, a half-day shoot is a line item worth paying for.

Why one quote is RM 1,500 and another is RM 12,000

They are almost never quoting the same work. Before comparing totals, check what each one includes.

A small business owner comparing two website quotes: an RM 1,500 quote missing copywriting, ownership, testing and a written scope, and an RM 12,000 quote that names every page, revisions, yearly costs, ownership and SST
Same brief, two quotes. The cheaper one isn’t a better deal; it just leaves out the work that makes a site bring in enquiries.

Signs a quote is too cheap

✕No mention of who writes the copy

✕Domain and hosting registered in the designer’s name

✕“Unlimited pages” for a fixed low price

✕No mobile testing or speed work listed

✕No written scope, just a total

What a fair quote names

✓Every page, and who writes it

✓Revisions included, and what counts as one

✓Yearly costs after launch, in ringgit

✓You own the domain, hosting and files

✓Whether the price is before or after SST

Already have a website?

Then you may not need a new one. Often the structure is fine and the problem is a homepage that doesn’t say clearly what you do or what to do next. That’s a focused fix, not a new build.

Website cost questions from Malaysian owners

Most small business websites in Malaysia cost between RM 2,000 and RM 15,000 in 2026. A one-page site starts around RM 2,000, a five-to-ten page business site with proper copywriting runs RM 6,000 to RM 15,000, and e-commerce sites usually start from RM 8,000.

Enough to cover structure, copywriting, mobile testing and a working enquiry path. In Malaysia that usually means RM 6,000 to RM 15,000 for a five-to-ten page site. Below RM 2,000 you are normally buying a template with your logo added.

Budget roughly RM 300 to RM 1,000 a year for domain and hosting on a small business site. Optional maintenance adds RM 100 to RM 500 a month, depending on how often the site changes and whether backups and updates are included.

Usually RM 8,000 to RM 30,000 for a custom-built online store, depending on product count, payment gateway setup, delivery rules and stock integration. A Shopify or WooCommerce template setup can start lower, but monthly app and platform fees add up.

Only if they are registered for Service Tax. A registered business must show it on the invoice, so ask whether a quote is before or after tax before comparing totals.

A one-page site can go live in about a week. A five-to-ten page business site usually takes three to six weeks, and most of that time is waiting for content, photos and approvals rather than the build itself.
